I would like to give a big thank you to Giovanna Zarbo and all the other wonderful ARK parents who helped put on our book fair! The library is richer by the donations of several books; Pink is for Blobfish from Benjamin and Oliver Parodi, Elephants Cannot Dance! from Maximus Fischer and The Wild Robot from Seth, Linabelle and Ayla Hughes. Come find them in our library’s New Book Shelf ready to check out!

Chomp
By Tosh Schmidt
Carl Hiaasen is an extremely talented author, and with his gift he is doing a lot of good work for our world. Carl has this way of implanting nonfiction ideas like pollution into an epic children’s novel. He can tell an amazing story and at the same time warn people of natural disasters. All of Carl’s books have good morals about protecting wildlife and making this world a better place. Carl Hiaasen has written numerous novels, my personal favorite is Chomp. Chomp warns people about being disrespectful to animals, it tells people animals aren’t as helpless as they seem. This book takes place in the Florida Everglades. The names of two protagonists in this story are sort of ironic. Their names are both types of fish: Tuna and Wahoo. Tuna is a girl who lives in a Walmart parking lot with her psycho dad that carries around a gun and a beer at all times. Wahoo and his dad are wranglers and Wahoo’s mom is currently working in China teaching people how to speak English. In my eyes this book gets a five star 100% amazing rating! This book is one of my favorites; I love the contrast between rich movie stars and trailer park dwellers. I think that Carl Hiaasen must put superglue on the covers of the books because I cannot put them down. This book was a really good fit for me, and in my opinion it would be a good fit for all ten to twelve year olds. If you like adventurous, funny and all around awesome stories, I suggest you go your local library now and check out Chomp!
